Turion-based HP Compaq Presario V2000 reviewed by PC Mag

More Turion-based laptops are turning up now that the chip has been around for a while, and PC Magazine has a look at one of the faster ones, the 2 GHz HP Compaq Presario V2000. The reviewer gave the laptop good ratings for performance, weight (5.4 pounds), and standard specs, which include 512MB RAM, an 80GB HDD, a DVD±RW drive and a 6-in-1 flash card reader. However, battery life was a mere 2 hours 29 minutes, especially disappointing given that the whole point of AMD's Turion is to provide an alternative to Intel's Pentium M. However, HP makes available a $25 extended battery that boosts battery life to over 5 hours, long enough to enjoy a couple of DVDs on a long flight.

Fujitsu's First UMPC Will Come with a Twisty Screen

Fujitsu will be the latest laptop maker to jump into the shallow waters otherwise known as the UMPC market. Their forthcoming handheld will look like a mini Tablet PC thanks to its rotating screen. Under the hood you'll find Intel's Stealey processor, 1GB of memory, and a 40GB drive. Fujitsu also plans on adding an SD card reader. Looks nice overall, though part of me wishes it would've looked more like what they showed us at CES.

latest laptop design

The design of the laptop has changed over time. It started with the green laptop with the crank. Then we had the blue laptop with the hinge on it. The most recent design, which will be used for the build out next month is great. Good textures, feels solid, includes the latest display size and the full hinge.
I was down at Red Hat’s Raleigh office last week and one of the guys there snapped the picture of the model that I had brought with me. It’s up on flickr now as part of the Red Hat Magazine collection.

M230 Rugged Laptop Computer

The M230 is BSI's latest laptop computer that meets and exceeds the standards set by the military (810F) and industry (IP54), but is priced less than many of the competitors' lightweight portable computers. With a Intel Core Duo L2400 processor, the M230 features a versatile Bay 1 and removable HDD bay design. The removable HDD bay allow users to easily remove the HDD, giving users a wide array of advantages such as, allowing multiple users to share laptop but not the HDD, safeguarding/security by removal of the HDD, and general reliability of easily removing the HDD and putting it into another laptop regardless of the original laptop’s state.

The IP54 design means that the M230 is designed to survive the extreme use and needs of today’s “on-the-go” road warriors in field service, utilities, construction, telecommunications, military, police, fire and emergency services (EMS), data collection in science, oil and gas exploration where wind-blown, heavy rain, three–foot drops off the back of a truck, and temperatures from –4 to +130º F may be encountered.

Going beyond rugged, the M230 is a powerful notebook computer. It features a large, bright 14.1” TFT XGA LCD screen with 128MB of RAM that provides vibrant images whether indoors or outdoors. For direct sunlight applications, an optional outdoor viewable display and A/R reflective coating is available. Behind the display is the latest Intel Core Duo L2400 processor for true speed and wireless portability. The Intel Core Duo L2400 processor is enhanced with up to 2 GB of DDR2, a 667MHz FSB, a selection of quick-swap hard disk drives (80 GB and up) and optical drives (DVD, CD-ROM).

The main battery powers the M230 for up to 4 hours of full-out, pedal to metal use. The optional second battery adds two more hours, but the optional vehicle mount lets the unit recharge and function continuously.

The affordable M230 also offers customers field flexibility in the configuration. The swappable drives will allow police, fire officials, and utility workers to leave the computer in the vehicle but remove the drive at the end of the shift to finish their reports at their desks or checking the disk into evidence.

THE LATEST UPCOMING LAPTOP THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU

The best thing about technology is that it improves and develops continuously. This probably is also the most challenging bit about technology that a buyer finds difficult to deal with. The laptop that is right for you will depend solely on your need. The most important question for you to answer is: why do I need a laptop? The latest laptops are full of features enhancing connectivity, usability, communication and also your comfort. They are lighter, faster and sport trendy looks. Following are some of the outstanding features of the latest upcoming laptops. You will also understand which feature provides you what kind of service and whether you need that or not. RAM: RAM or random access memory determines the amount of bits a programme can use while it runs on your laptop. The more programmes that you need to work on, the higher should be the RAM of your laptop. If you are a multimedia developer, a gamer or an architect, you would need a laptop with higher RAM so that you can run a number of programmes simultaneously without affecting the speed adversely. The latest upcoming laptops have installed RAM from 1GB to 4GB (Sony VAIO SZ). You can also upgrade RAM. So it is best that you choose a laptop where extra memory can be added. Hard Drive: Hard Disc Drive (HDD) or hard drive as it is most commonly known as stores digitally encoded data in your laptop. Simply speaking it is the HDD that stores the newly created data and the old data even after the power supply is turned off. So if you want to play games and store your progress, keep latest flicks and music in your laptop, share it with someone else, keep a backup of your work, you will need a laptop with bigger HDD. These days laptops come with even 200GB hard disk. That’s a huge storage area. Remember though, a bigger hard drive also means heavier weight. Processor: Processor is simply put the brain of your laptop. It processes all the instruction that you enter on your laptop, starting from typing a word document to playing a game. Most manufacturers use either Intel processors or AMD processors. Intel Processors has a slower internal clock rate than AMD Processors. If you want high end graphics quality then AMD processor is your pick. But remember to check if your laptop has the latest version of the processor. The latest set of processors is Intel Core 2 Duo from Intel and AMD Opteron and Athlon Dual Core from AMD. ConnectivityConnectivity is the need of the hour. You want to keep your laptop as mobile as possible. Look for a Bluetooth and wireless enabled laptop if you want to stay connected wherever you go. Again the latest upcoming laptops come with a bouquet of wireless connectivity options. Also to consider is the number of USB ports in your laptop so that you can use the telephone, broadband or Ethernet connections as well as connect your laptop with other compatible devices like printer, camera, mobile phone etc. Once you decide on the main features, you can also accessorise your laptop according to your need.

    Compal becomes a great pal for computer users
    Posted on June 16th, 2007 by apabritabasu

    The Compal is your latest computer pal. This portable computer system was seen in the Computex. Running on a Windows CE 5.0 platform , the computer buddy can do amazing things. Let’s take a look at it’s features.
    Don’t underestimate the power of this little guy. The Compal is powered by a 532MHz Freescale i.MX31 processor. The Compal also features a touchscreen Along with a fast processor, the Compal offers the following to it’s users:
    * 256MB of SDRAM
    * 512MB of Flash memory
    * Wireless system
    * Bluetooth
    It even comes with a 1.3 Megapixel camera and all priced a little under 400USD. I think this is a great deal for a pocket PC - almost too good to be true. So, if you have 400 dollars to spend, get yourself one of these computer buddies. Also, these pocket PCs might be able to bring back the Windows CE version.

    Toshiba Portege M700 Notebook PC

    Core 2 Duo T7500 Processor 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM Despite being in the market for ages, tablet PCs have never really taken off for the consumer market. Due to its high premium, most of these devices end up in education or corporate settings for those who require screen-based input and don't mind paying for it. The latest laptop from Toshiba, the Portege M700, is one such device. Despite its rather high price tag, the M700 is built to last. Based on Toshiba's EasyGuard technology, this is one hardy portable for the urban jungle, and the full-powered processor based on Intel latest chipset ensures that it will remain relevant for years. But despite using an LED screen, being a full-featured tablet PC means that compromises have to be made for portability. If you need a tablet that can be used on the move, the lighter but less tricked-out Fujitsu LifeBook T2010--which even has HSDPA-equipped version--may be a better choice.

    Flybook VM

    Flybook have released their latest "laptop", the Flybook VM which looks less like a laptop and more like workstation but shares the small form factor of Flybooks other products. The 12.1” VM notebook features an unusual extendable double-hinged arm on which the monitor can be slid up by 2.3” allowing it to be positions for a more optimal viewing experience. It looks like a nice piece of kit, but at $2699 it pales in both performance and features when compared to more established brands. Still, it does indeed look cool.

    Voodoo PC's Envy H:171: blood red

    The widescreen model offers gamers the opportunity to customise the machine with colours, tattoos and the hardware specs, but the basic model comes with Intel's 2.93GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 and 4GB of DDR 2 memory.
    The Envy also comes with a 160GB Seagate 7200rpm hard drive as standard, but if you're really looking to turn heads then you'll be pleased to know that up to three HDDs can be combined to provide up to a whopping 600GB of storage. An 8x DVD writer is also included as standard.
    The 17in screen is driven by an Nvidia GeForce Go 7950 video chip, with 512MB graphics memory, but even this can be doubled to ramp up your on-screen performance. The 17in panel provides 1920 x 1200 pixels.
    Connectivity comes courtesy of Bluetooth and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. A seven-in-one memory card reader is also built in, while the whole system runs on Windows XP Professional as standard.
    The Envy H:171 is available now, but won't make your bank manager envious because prices start at around $5000 (£2440/€3618).

    Here’s the latest laptop from MSIMegaBook M670. This 15.4-inch notebook offers an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor, Bluetooth, and 802.11 b/g WiFI connectivity. With this feature, the machine can send the image to both the LCD screen and another external display device, such as video projectors. It also comes with built-in numeric keypad, like those on the desktop keyboard. Users who works a lot with calculation would definitely love it

    Toshiba launches new Portégé M700 tablet PCs

    Yes, they are still being made and Toshiba is the latest laptop manufacturer to launch a new range of tablet PCs. The two models in the new Portégé M700 series are Toshiba’s fourth take on the tablet concept and both are based on Intel Centrino vPro technology, with Core 2 Duo T7250 processors (based on the Merom platform, rather than the new 45nm Penryn).

    Latest laptops: Hot and cheap

    Here at Crave, as we stare longingly at our giant chocolate Easter eggs, we can't help but remember that oh-so-long-ago New Year's resolution to finally get fit. Thankfully, the latestlaptops are doing the work for us -- they're slim, trim and a whole lot sexier.

    You'd have to be living in a rabbit hole to not know that thin is in this year. Just 19mm at its thickest point, Apple's MacBook Air sports one of the most innovative designs we've ever seen. But it's not alone in the department of sleek. The Toshiba Portege R500 tips the scales at a meagre 779g, which isn't much more than a loaf of bread. Like a gym membership card, you could easily put the Tosh in your bag and forget it's there.

    If it's mobility you're after, may we introduce the Lenovo ThinkPad X300? With its 13.3-inch screen andsolid-state drive -- they're all the rage, too -- it ups the ante on the Air and R500, making for an intense battle of the featherweights.

    The laptop manufacturers must also realise that your well-earned monthly dosh is, like ours, split between your gym membership and trips to the chippy, and have started offering low-cost laptops that don't skimp on quality. The Asus Eee PC 701 started the trend, but there's a bevy of newbies waiting to take pity on your wallet. The Dell Vostro 1400 starts at just £233, has a range of configurations and, dude -- it's a Dell. While it may not be as stylish as its XPS M1530 sibling, we'd be surprised if you could find a more feature-friendly option for that sum.

    Bringing up the rear is Packard Bell's EasyNote XS, which, at £399 might seem pricey in comparison, but it one-ups its competitors with a 30GB hard drive. How's that for value? Check out our round-up of cheap laptops for a side-by-side comparison.

    It couldn't be easier to buy a laptop that's small in size or light on your wallet. Throw indecision to the wind and tuck in to some fabulous machines. We'll handle the chocolate. -Shannon Doubleday

    Apple’s latest laptop

    The laptop took a new meaning with the newest invention of Apple. It is so thin it fits in a regular manila envelope. In a speech in front of about 4000 attendees to MacWorld conference (San Francisco), Steve Jobs showed the latest model of laptops: MacBook Air. With the theatrical style that characterizes him, Steve Jobs took out a regular manila envelope, legal size, and removed a real live Macbook Air. Jobs claimed he have made a comparison with all the current thinnest laptops. The MacBook Air will be available in stores in two weeks and it will cost $1,799. The device has a slightly wedge-shaped profile. It weighs about 3 pounds, and sports a thickness of 0.16-0.76 inches. It’s 12.8 inches wide and 8.95 inches deep. The MacBook Air can get about 5 hours of battery life with wireless networking turned on.
